Innocent And Friends
Marjan Saeidi
Delgosha is pleased to present "Innocent and Friends", an exhibition of recent works by Marjan Saiedi. The watercolor paintings of Marjan saiedi draws from fairytales, pop culture and history in pursuit of creating a world of her own. The elimination of the place and close attention to the clothes and characters are the beginning point for the viewer to get involved in the storyline. The stories that hide themselves just as they call on the viewer to look for more. A calling that intentionally goes unanswered. The one thing in common in all her fantastical narratives is out of placeness. An element in the wrong place, an obvious transformation. humans in animal’s clothing or animals behaving as humans, a person with sheet over his head(a ghost) acts as normal as everyone else. These paintings act as snapshots of the bizarre. The characters pose to show their “best side” to the camera/inspector. The character’s awareness of being watched makes the paintings much harder to read. Although these images fall under the Grimm brothers storytelling tradition, but the dream-like paintings of saeidi in search of contradiction and uncanny are contemporary at heart. Saiedi has participated in some group shows in Tehran and Isfahan.
