Diaries of a wrestler
Reza Shafahi
Delgosha is pleased to announce the first solo show in Iran by Reza Shafahi entitled “Diaries Of A Wrestler”. Reza Shafahi is a retired wrestler and a self-taught painter. His paintings are inextricably intertwined with his culture and environment and his practice is inspired by Khayyam’s poems, literature, cinema, television and everyday news. Despite the familiarity of the references of his paintings, they are not narrative. Rather it is their concern with the impact and the inner meaning of the images that make them special. The painter is talking fluently with his crayons and brushes as if these paintings are his personal diaries deeply rooted in his cultural and personal life. The intersection of different elements that shape this internal narrative mocks our unquestioning acceptance of reality. The soft lines and pale palette of these paintings are reminiscent of an image in sunrise; somewhere between dream and reality, free of the consciousness. He had shown in Magic of Persia, Dubai, Marlborough Chelsea gallery, New York and SpazioA gallery, Italy and a solo show in Erratum gallery, Berlin. This is his first solo show in Iran.
