Eat My Fear, Chew My Name
Rana Dehghan
Delgosha Gallery is pleased to announce Rana Dehghan’s second solo show titled “Eat My Fear, Chew My Name”. The familiar objects in Dehghan’s practice are taken out of shared-images world and are turned into means of personal expression in her enigmatic language which despite artist’s intervention still resembles the real. They are built in the afterlife of the objects. Objects lose their fixed estate and become materials at the artist’s hand. An object can be anything at any moment, lose structure and all function, manipulated, Deformed and repeated many times until it loses all meaning. The object is in continuous change. She obsessively intervenes with the flaws and defect of found objects. Her intervention appears in their intentional damages and unpolished surfaces. The rough sculptures being put together bizarrely, a severed ear embracing a human’s head and a broken coined operated horse that the artist have covered up in velvet. Dehghan’s works are a link between old and new, analogue and digital, nostalgia and forward-looking. The momentary invention of these pieces in between these estates make extraordinary quite ordinary and mythical into a daily routine. In the doubt and indecision of these pieces lies a strength that makes damaged and bizarrely assembled of another reality. Dehghan has also participated in numerous group shows and collaborative projects in Iran and other countries.
